Baby Audio Announces Tekno, a New Drum Synthesiser Plugin

Baby Audio has announced the release of Tekno, a new drum synthesiser plugin. The company, known for its range of instruments and effects, describes Tekno as an analogue-inspired drum synthesiser that combines both analogue and digital elements for drum synthesis.

According to Baby Audio, the plugin is a spiritual successor to classic drum machines, designed to evolve the underlying technology rather than emulate specific hardware units from the past. Tekno features 18 synthesised drum engines that utilise circuit modelling and synthesis techniques.

A key philosophy behind Tekno is its use of circuit modelling, a digital process that simulates the behaviour of a real analogue circuit. According to the company, this method allows the plugin to generate a unique sound with every hit, replicating the subtle imperfections and variations found in authentic analogue hardware. This stands in contrast to sample-based drum machines, which play back static, pre-recorded audio files. By synthesising each drum sound from scratch, Tekno provides producers with an instrument where no two hits are exactly alike, adding an organic feel to programmed beats.

The company states that as a synthesiser, Tekno produces unique sounds without using any pre-recorded audio. It includes features that introduce non-linearities from its modelled analogue circuits and a 'Humanise' function to vary the sound. The plugin also provides sound design options and a preset randomiser.

Tekno includes a range of effects created in collaboration with Jatin Chowdhury. The plugin launches with 73 custom kit presets from producers including Mr. Bill, Richard Devine, Virtual Riot, and Yoad Nevo. It is compatible with all major DAWs for Mac and PC, including Apple Silicon devices.
