New Baby Audio Pitch Drift plugin ‘breaks spell of digital perfection’

Baby Audio has unveiled its new Pitch Drift plugin, which is designed to add a more natural and organic feel to your tracks.

The effect of the Pitch Drift plugin ranges from subtle instabilities that are intended to make your instruments sound less sterile, to intense pitch drifting that will render tracks clearly out of tune.

Pitch Drift also allows users to control the depth and speed of the fluctuations via a simple interface (hover over the screen to control the speed). It is powered by the Drift algorithm in Baby Audio's Super VHS plugin and offers the same natural and pleasing fluctuation effect.

Baby Audio notes that one of the appeals of acoustic instruments is that they are never 100% in tune 100% of the time. As such, these subtle pitch instabilities are compounded when you bring multiple instruments together in a mix, bringer richer dynamics to the final production.

However, in the age of digital music creation, this aspect can sometimes be lost. With Pitch Drift, Baby Audio says that is allows to users to ‘break the spell of digital pitch perfection and get your tracks to vibrate a little more’. That brand also notes that Pitch Drift generally works best at subtle levels on sustained tonal instruments or entire mix busses. As a rule of thumb, the less sustained your source is, the faster you want the speed parameter to be set.

The release of Pitch Drift follows the launch of the brand’s IHNY-2 compressor plugin and Crystalline algorithmic studio reverb plugin earlier this year. Baby Audio also released two of its popular free plugins, Magic Switch and Magic Dice as AUv3 plugins for iPad and iPhone.
