Massive Attack headline new sustainable LIDO Festival

LIDO Festival, London’s newest music event, kicked off with a 100% battery-powered day headlined by Massive Attack on Friday 6 June 2025.

LIDO’s main stage was entirely powered by the Grid Faeries x Ecotricity 1 MW battery – an on-site source of clean energy that eliminates the use of diesel at festivals and outdoor events.

Grid Faeries mission is to develop sustainable solutions for future festivals, building a “hardwired solution” into the infrastructure instead of relying on temporary power generators. The sound system at LIDO was a Martin Audio system, supplied by Solotech and mixed by sound engineer Rob Allan.

“Massive Attack has demonstrated that there is a better way to operate for the future of both our planet and our industry,” said Jim King, CEO of European Festivals, AEG Presents. “LIDO represents the next step towards a broader adoption of industry-leading sustainability principles across AEG European Festivals, all while continuing to bring the world’s biggest artists and the best production to deliver incredible experiences for fans at our festivals.”

The cinematic Bristolian musicians were joined on-stage by Elizabeth Fraser, Horace Andy, Deborah Miller and Yasiin Bay, as a star-studded crowd looked on to a day in which sustainability found itself front and centre. Other acts included HUNNY, Tirzah, Mad Professor, 47SOUL and Air.

Billed as London’s “most sustainable festival to date”, it was an uplifting event that set the benchmark for sustainable practice in large-scale productions. Ahead of LIDO, British artist and musician, Robert Del Naja (also known as 3D) wrote: "To present London's first ever 100% battery powered festival day with a dynamic range of artists is an optimum outcome for us.

“History shows it's often the combination of art and science that overcomes the greatest challenges we face, so it's good to see LIDO take learnings from our ACT1.5 event last year and apply those technologies to where they see emissions coming from. Clean productions beginning this journey to normalisation is good news for everyone, but especially for music fans that come to festivals and the local communities that live around them."

Massive Attack joined headliners Jamie xx (Saturday 7 June), OUTBREAK Fest (Friday 13 June), Charli xcx’s own party girl festival (Saturday 14 June) and London Grammar (Sunday 15 June) for the inaugural LIDO.
