Following the news that the forthcoming iOS 17 update will see basic level production credits added to the Apple Music platform, The MPG has written an open letter to Apple, asking the company to do more by integrating detailed credits into every track information on the platform.
Later this year, users worldwide will be able to discover, enjoy and accomplish even more on their Apple devices with new features and enhancements arriving with iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS Sonoma, watchOS 10 and tvOS 17.
In line with this, Apple stated that a new feature will allow users to “discover the artists behind favourite songs with Song Credits in Apple Music,” allowing fans to view comprehensive data about the artists who contributed to their favourite tracks, including their roles and the instruments they played.
In response, the MPG issued the following open letter to Apple:
Dear Apple Music,
It’s time you gave full credit where credit is due.
Since 2014, the Music Producer’s Guild (MPG) has campaigned hard to obtain accurate credits for everyone involved in the recording process. From producers, recording engineers, mixers, mastering engineers, assistant engineers, runners, musicians, and countless other behind-the scenes talents who pour their heart, soul, and expertise into making the records many hold so dear to their lives.
We have worked closely with partners within the wider music industry and were influential in shaping the DDEX RIN standard for reporting credits from the point of creation. However, for many fans, artists and aspiring professionals, the depth of these contributions remains obscured due to a lack of easily accessible production credits.
