Netflix & Warner Music Group to collaborate on artist documentaries

Warner Music Group (WMG) has signed an exclusive deal with Netflix to develop artist and songwriter documentaries.

The multi-year first-look deal will see Netflix producing documentary films and series exploring the lives, music and legacies of WMG’s musicians.

WMG is partnering with Unigram, run by Amanda Ghost and Gregor Cameron, to serve as the production arm for WMG’s long-form programming. WMG and Unigram will collaboratively develop each project alongside the artist or their estates.

WMG’s Recorded Music roster includes musicians such as David Bowie, Cher, Phil Collins, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Aretha Franklin, Led Zeppelin, Madonna, Joni Mitchell, and dozens more, as well as contemporary artists such as Charli xcx, Coldplay, Dua Lipa, Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran.

“The combination of Warner Music Group’s IP with Netflix’s global reach is an incredible opportunity to introduce new fans to our artists and songwriters all around the world,” said Robert Kyncl, CEO of WMG.

“We've seen how music inspires incredible fandom on Netflix,” said Adam Del Deo, VP of documentary films and series at Netflix. “We're excited to partner with Warner Music Group and the best-in-class artists they work with to bring even more indelible music storytelling to our members."
