New study reveals Glastonbury boosts musician profiles 28% more than Coachella

As festival goers head to Glastonbury this week, a new study has been conducted by researchers at Casino Reviews to see which major festival, Glastonbury or Coachella, boosts headline artist profiles the most.

By measuring the increase in Google searches pre- and post-festival, along with the number of articles, total engagement, and top online sentiment towards each headline artist, researchers at Casino Reviews were able to discover the increase in popularity based on the uplift each headline artist received. Online sentiment was measured using Buzzsumo’s content analysis tool to discover the type of reactions to posts discussing the artist.

The research has revealed that Glastonbury headline slots boost profiles more than Coachella, with Glastonbury artists who played in 2024 seeing an average of a 42% increase in popularity online, compared to Coachella headliners in 2025, where artists saw an average of a 14% increase.

Some key findings include:

  • Glastonbury is the best festival for headline acts to play if they want to boost their profile, giving artists a boost of 28% more than Coachella.

  • Cyndi Lauper saw the biggest increase in popularity last year at Glastonbury out of all 2024 headliners, proving that the nostalgic acts are coming back into the mainstream.

  • Coldplay saw a 50% increase in popularity following their Glastonbury set last year, with almost 770,000 online engagements in June 2024 alone.

Interestingly, following her Glastonbury set in June 2024, Dua Lipa saw a slight 5% decrease in popularity. Researchers measured popularity based on the increase in Google searches for each artist pre- and post-festival. Despite a slight decrease in popularity, the artist generated over 137,000 online engagements, with 68% of reactions online being a ‘love’ sentiment.

On the other hand, Cyndi Lauper saw a huge increase in popularity, almost doubling the amount of monthly searches she received following her performance, and seeing a 143% increase in popularity. The singer also generated a huge amount of online engagement, experiencing over 355,000 online engagements and an 81% positive love sentiment.

The new data has found that Glastonbury legend slots have one of the biggest effects on increasing artist profiles, with Rod Stewart taking the stage for the slot this year, and is predicted to see a huge 115% increase in online popularity.

To predict which artist will see the biggest post-Glastonbury 2025 popularity surge, Casino Reviews analysed search trends, media coverage, social engagement, and sentiment. A scoring formula was then created based on Glastonbury 2024 benchmarks.

As a result, Charli XCX is expected to nearly triple her popularity (143% increase) across the internet following her Glastonbury performance. Her media domination is growing more than ever, and the pop icon has emerged as the top artist gaining the most media attention out of all headliners from Coachella and Glastonbury.

Also having performed at Coachella this year are The Prodigy, and the band is due to headline the Glastonbury ‘Other’ stage to close the festival on Sunday, 29th June. Researchers found that the band experienced a 20% increase in popularity following their Coachella set earlier this year, but following Glastonbury, researchers predict they will see a 39% increase in popularity online.

Coachella has boosted artist profiles considerably, most notably that of Green Day. The band emerged as the headliners who received the biggest boost in popularity out of the Coachella headliners earlier this year, with a 28.4% increase in popularity and a 56% majority of ‘love’ sentiment online.

Further, just two weeks after her Coachella set, Lady Gaga’s Poker Face emerged as the biggest gainer on Spotify’s Top Songs Global as the nostalgic hit moved up by 89 spots following the performance at the renowned festival. The pop star also received an extra 4.3 million global Google searches following her set, proving that Coachella headline slots also pack a serious punch when boosting profiles across the internet.
