Rhodes Music introduces the Vari-Amp plugin preamps

Rhodes Music has introduced the Rhodes Vari-Amp plugin, a collection of six classic Rhodes preamps paired with eight amplifier and microphone models, designed for keyboardists, guitarists, producers, and instrumentalists seeking authentic analogue colour.

“Rhodes Vari-Amp marks a bold new chapter in our sonic adventures,” said Dan Goldman, chief product officer at Rhodes Music. “It captures the magic of the most sought-after Rhodes preamps, alongside classic workhorse amps and studio-grade microphones, putting timeless tone right at your fingertips. With powerful compression, EQ, drive, and lush reverb adding the finishing touch, Vari-Amp takes you from subtle warmth to full-blown character shaping, transforming any sound into rich, expressive sonic gold.”

At the heart of Vari-Amp is a dual-module architecture featuring dedicated Preamp and Amp/Mic sections. Each module includes its own dry/wet blend control, allowing fully variable interaction between clean and processed signals for detailed tonal sculpting. Whether adding depth, colour, and dynamic movement to individual tracks such as vocals, keys, guitars, and synths, or introducing cohesive analogue character across an entire mix, Vari-Amp offers a versatile framework for creative tone shaping.

Each preamp circuit in Vari-Amp is rooted in the Rhodes legacy, modelled from classic pianos including the MK1 ’79 Suitcase, Hot-Rodded preamps, and the modern MK8. Each model reproduces its original EQ topology and harmonic response, capturing the tonal DNA of its era with authenticity and precision.

Key features include: Six classic Rhodes preamps, each with its own EQ topology and harmonic character, eight amplifier models, eight classic microphone models covering dynamic, condenser, and ribbon types and independent Preamp and Amp/Mic sections with continuous dry/wet blending. Additionally, the plugin offers three-mode Drive circuit for variable saturation and harmonic colour and a compressor with parallel mix control and flexible pre/post routing, among other features.
